先识一曰:凡国之亡也,有道(dao)者(zhe)必先去(qu),古今一也。地(di)从於城,城从於民,民从於贤(xian)。故贤(xian)主得(de)(de)贤(xian)者(zhe)而(er)民得(de)(de),民得(de)(de)而(er)城得(de)(de),城得(de)(de)而(er)地(di)得(de)(de)。夫地(di)得(de)(de)岂必足行其(qi)地(di)、人说其(qi)民哉?得(de)(de)其(qi)要而(er)已(yi)矣。

夏(xia)太(tai)史(shi)(shi)(shi)令(ling)终(zhong)古(gu)出(chu)其(qi)图(tu)法(fa),执而(er)泣之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。夏(xia)桀迷惑,暴乱(luan)(luan)愈甚。太(tai)史(shi)(shi)(shi)令(ling)终(zhong)古(gu)乃(nai)(nai)(nai)出(chu)奔如(ru)(ru)商。汤(tang)喜而(er)告诸侯曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“夏(xia)王无(wu)道,暴虐百姓(xing)(xing),穷其(qi)父兄,耻其(qi)功(gong)臣(chen)(chen)(chen),轻其(qi)贤(xian)(xian)良(liang),弃义(yi)(yi)听谗,众庶咸(xian)怨(yuan),守(shou)法(fa)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)臣(chen)(chen)(chen),自(zi)归于商。”殷内(nei)史(shi)(shi)(shi)向挚见(jian)纣之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)愈乱(luan)(luan)迷惑也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),於是载(zai)其(qi)图(tu)法(fa),出(chu)亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)周(zhou)(zhou)。武王大(da)说,以(yi)(yi)(yi)告诸侯曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“商王大(da)乱(luan)(luan),沈(shen)于酒德,辟远箕子,爰(yuan)近姑与(yu)息。妲己为(wei)政(zheng),赏罚无(wu)方,不(bu)(bu)(bu)用法(fa)式(shi),杀三不(bu)(bu)(bu)辜,民(min)(min)大(da)不(bu)(bu)(bu)服。守(shou)法(fa)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)臣(chen)(chen)(chen),出(chu)奔周(zhou)(zhou)国(guo)。”晋(jin)太(tai)史(shi)(shi)(shi)屠(tu)(tu)黍(shu)见(jian)晋(jin)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)乱(luan)(luan)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),见(jian)晋(jin)公(gong)(gong)(gong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)骄(jiao)而(er)无(wu)德义(yi)(yi)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),以(yi)(yi)(yi)其(qi)图(tu)法(fa)归周(zhou)(zhou)。周(zhou)(zhou)威(wei)(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)见(jian)而(er)问(wen)(wen)焉,曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“天下之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)国(guo)孰先亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)?”对(dui)曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“晋(jin)先亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)。”威(wei)(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)问(wen)(wen)其(qi)故,对(dui)曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“臣(chen)(chen)(chen)比在(zai)晋(jin)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),不(bu)(bu)(bu)敢直(zhi)言,示晋(jin)公(gong)(gong)(gong)以(yi)(yi)(yi)天妖,日(ri)(ri)月星(xing)辰之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)行(xing)多以(yi)(yi)(yi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)当。曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):‘是何能为(wei)?’又(you)示以(yi)(yi)(yi)人(ren)(ren)事多不(bu)(bu)(bu)义(yi)(yi),百姓(xing)(xing)皆郁怨(yuan)。曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):‘是何能伤?’又(you)示以(yi)(yi)(yi)邻国(guo)不(bu)(bu)(bu)服,贤(xian)(xian)良(liang)不(bu)(bu)(bu)举曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):‘是何能害?’如(ru)(ru)是,是不(bu)(bu)(bu)知所以(yi)(yi)(yi)亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。故臣(chen)(chen)(chen)曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue)晋(jin)先亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。”居三年,晋(jin)果亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)。威(wei)(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)又(you)见(jian)屠(tu)(tu)黍(shu)而(er)问(wen)(wen)焉,曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“孰次(ci)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)?”对(dui)曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“中山(shan)(shan)次(ci)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”威(wei)(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)问(wen)(wen)其(qi)故,对(dui)曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“天生民(min)(min)而(er)令(ling)有别(bie),有别(bie),人(ren)(ren)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)义(yi)(yi)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),所异於禽兽(shou)麋鹿也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),君臣(chen)(chen)(chen)上下之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所以(yi)(yi)(yi)立也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。中山(shan)(shan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)俗,以(yi)(yi)(yi)昼为(wei)夜,以(yi)(yi)(yi)夜继日(ri)(ri),男女切倚,固(gu)无(wu)休息,康乐,歌谣好(hao)悲,其(qi)主弗知恶,此(ci)亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)国(guo)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)风也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。臣(chen)(chen)(chen)故曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue)中山(shan)(shan)次(ci)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”居二(er)年,中山(shan)(shan)果亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)。威(wei)(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)又(you)见(jian)屠(tu)(tu)黍(shu)而(er)问(wen)(wen)焉,曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“孰次(ci)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)?”屠(tu)(tu)黍(shu)不(bu)(bu)(bu)对(dui)。威(wei)(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)固(gu)问(wen)(wen)焉,对(dui)曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“君次(ci)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”威(wei)(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)乃(nai)(nai)(nai)惧,求(qiu)国(guo)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)长者,得义(yi)(yi)莳、田邑而(er)礼之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),得史(shi)(shi)(shi)驎、赵骈以(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)谏臣(chen)(chen)(chen),去苛令(ling)三十九物,以(yi)(yi)(yi)告屠(tu)(tu)黍(shu)。对(dui)曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):“其(qi)尚终(zhong)君之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)身乎!”曰(yue)(yue)(yue)(yue):臣(chen)(chen)(chen)闻之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),国(guo)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)兴也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),天遗之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)贤(xian)(xian)人(ren)(ren)与(yu)极言之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)士;国(guo)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)亡(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),天遗之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)乱(luan)(luan)人(ren)(ren)与(yu)善(shan)谀之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)士。”威(wei)(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)薨,肂九月不(bu)(bu)(bu)得葬(zang),周(zhou)(zhou)乃(nai)(nai)(nai)分为(wei)二(er)。故有道者之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)言也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),不(bu)(bu)(bu)可不(bu)(bu)(bu)重也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。

周(zhou)鼎著饕(tao)餮,有首无身(shen),食人(ren)未咽(yan),害(hai)及其身(shen),以言报更也。为不(bu)善亦然。

白圭之(zhi)中(zhong)(zhong)山,中(zhong)(zhong)山之(zhi)王(wang)(wang)欲留(liu)之(zhi),白圭固辞(ci),乘舆而(er)(er)去。又(you)之(zhi)齐(qi),齐(qi)王(wang)(wang)欲留(liu)之(zhi)仕,又(you)辞(ci)而(er)(er)去。人(ren)问(wen)其故,曰:“之(zhi)二国者(zhe)皆(jie)将亡(wang)。所学有(you)五(wu)尽(jin)。何谓五(wu)尽(jin)?曰:莫(mo)之(zhi)必,则(ze)(ze)信尽(jin)矣(yi);莫(mo)之(zhi)誉(yu),则(ze)(ze)名尽(jin)矣(yi);莫(mo)之(zhi)爱,则(ze)(ze)亲尽(jin)矣(yi);行者(zhe)无(wu)粮(liang)、居者(zhe)无(wu)食,则(ze)(ze)财尽(jin)矣(yi);不能(neng)用人(ren)、又(you)不能(neng)自(zi)用,则(ze)(ze)功尽(jin)矣(yi)。国有(you)此五(wu)者(zhe),无(wu)幸必亡(wang)。中(zhong)(zhong)山、齐(qi)皆(jie)当此。”若(ruo)使中(zhong)(zhong)山之(zhi)王(wang)(wang)与(yu)齐(qi)王(wang)(wang)闻五(wu)尽(jin)而(er)(er)更之(zhi),则(ze)(ze)必不亡(wang)矣(yi)。其患不闻,虽闻之(zhi)又(you)不信。然则(ze)(ze)人(ren)主之(zhi)务,在乎(hu)善(shan)听而(er)(er)已矣(yi)。夫五(wu)割而(er)(er)与(yu)赵(zhao),悉起而(er)(er)距军乎(hu)济(ji)上,未有(you)益(yi)也。是弃(qi)其所以(yi)存,而(er)(er)造其所以(yi)亡(wang)也。

观世(shi)二(er)曰(yue):天(tian)下虽有(you)有(you)道(dao)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)士(shi)(shi)(shi),国犹少(shao)。千里(li)而有(you)一(yi)士(shi)(shi)(shi),比肩也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye);累(lei)世(shi)而有(you)一(yi)圣(sheng)人(ren)(ren),继踵(zhong)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。士(shi)(shi)(shi)与(yu)圣(sheng)人(ren)(ren)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所自来,若(ruo)(ruo)此(ci)(ci)其(qi)难也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),而治(zhi)必(bi)待之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),治(zhi)奚(xi)由至?虽幸(xing)而有(you),未必(bi)知也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),不(bu)(bu)知则(ze)与(yu)无(wu)贤(xian)(xian)同。此(ci)(ci)治(zhi)世(shi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所以(yi)短(duan),而乱(luan)世(shi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所以(yi)长也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。故王者(zhe)(zhe)不(bu)(bu)四,霸(ba)者(zhe)(zhe)不(bu)(bu)六,亡国相望,囚主(zhu)相及(ji)。得士(shi)(shi)(shi)则(ze)无(wu)此(ci)(ci)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)患。此(ci)(ci)周之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所封四百馀(yu),服国八百馀(yu),今(jin)无(wu)存者(zhe)(zhe)矣。虽存,皆尝(chang)亡矣。贤(xian)(xian)主(zhu)知其(qi)若(ruo)(ruo)此(ci)(ci)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),故日慎一(yi)日,以(yi)终(zhong)其(qi)世(shi)。譬之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)若(ruo)(ruo)登(deng)山(shan),登(deng)山(shan)者(zhe)(zhe),处已(yi)高矣,左(zuo)(zuo)右视,尚巍巍焉(yan)山(shan)在(zai)其(qi)上。贤(xian)(xian)者(zhe)(zhe)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所与(yu)处,有(you)似於(wu)(wu)(wu)此(ci)(ci)。身(shen)已(yi)贤(xian)(xian)矣,行已(yi)高矣,左(zuo)(zuo)右视,尚尽贤(xian)(xian)於(wu)(wu)(wu)己(ji)。故周公旦(dan)曰(yue):“不(bu)(bu)如吾(wu)者(zhe)(zhe),吾(wu)不(bu)(bu)与(yu)处,累(lei)我者(zhe)(zhe)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye);与(yu)我齐者(zhe)(zhe),吾(wu)不(bu)(bu)与(yu)处,无(wu)益我者(zhe)(zhe)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。”惟贤(xian)(xian)者(zhe)(zhe)必(bi)与(yu)贤(xian)(xian)於(wu)(wu)(wu)己(ji)者(zhe)(zhe)处。贤(xian)(xian)者(zhe)(zhe)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)可(ke)得与(yu)处也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),礼(li)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。主(zhu)贤(xian)(xian)世(shi)治(zhi),则(ze)贤(xian)(xian)者(zhe)(zhe)在(zai)上;主(zhu)不(bu)(bu)肖世(shi)乱(luan),则(ze)贤(xian)(xian)者(zhe)(zhe)在(zai)下。今(jin)周室既灭,天(tian)子(zi)既废,乱(luan)莫大於(wu)(wu)(wu)无(wu)天(tian)子(zi)。无(wu)天(tian)子(zi)则(ze)强(qiang)者(zhe)(zhe)胜弱(ruo),众(zhong)者(zhe)(zhe)暴寡,以(yi)兵(bing)相刬,不(bu)(bu)得休息。而佞进。今(jin)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)世(shi)当之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)矣。故欲求有(you)道(dao)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)士(shi)(shi)(shi),则(ze)於(wu)(wu)(wu)江河之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)上,山(shan)谷(gu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)中,僻(pi)远幽闲之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所,若(ruo)(ruo)此(ci)(ci)则(ze)幸(xing)於(wu)(wu)(wu)得之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)矣。太(tai)公钓於(wu)(wu)(wu)滋(zi)泉,遭纣(zhou)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)世(shi)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),故文(wen)王得之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。文(wen)王,千乘(cheng)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye);纣(zhou),天(tian)子(zi)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。天(tian)子(zi)失(shi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),而千乘(cheng)得之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),知之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)与(yu)不(bu)(bu)知也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。诸众(zhong)齐民,不(bu)(bu)待知而使,不(bu)(bu)待礼(li)而令。若(ruo)(ruo)夫有(you)道(dao)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)士(shi)(shi)(shi),必(bi)礼(li)必(bi)知,然后(hou)其(qi)智(zhi)能(neng)可(ke)尽也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。

晏(yan)(yan)子(zi)(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)晋(jin),见(jian)反裘(qiu)负刍息於途者。以(yi)为(wei)君(jun)子(zi)(zi)也(ye)(ye)(ye),使人(ren)问焉(yan),曰(yue)(yue):“曷为(wei)而(er)至此(ci)?”对曰(yue)(yue):“齐人(ren)累之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),名为(wei)越(yue)石父(fu)。”晏(yan)(yan)子(zi)(zi)曰(yue)(yue):“嘻(xi)!”遽解左骖以(yi)赎(shu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),载而(er)与(yu)归。至舍,弗辞而(er)入。越(yue)石父(fu)怒,请(qing)绝。晏(yan)(yan)子(zi)(zi)使人(ren)应之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)曰(yue)(yue):“婴(ying)未尝得交也(ye)(ye)(ye),今免子(zi)(zi)於患(huan),吾於子(zi)(zi)犹未邪也(ye)(ye)(ye)?”越(yue)石父(fu)曰(yue)(yue):“吾闻君(jun)子(zi)(zi)屈(qu)乎不(bu)(bu)己知(zhi)者,而(er)伸乎己知(zhi)者。吾是以(yi)请(qing)绝也(ye)(ye)(ye)。”晏(yan)(yan)子(zi)(zi)乃出见(jian)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),曰(yue)(yue):“向也(ye)(ye)(ye)见(jian)客(ke)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)容而(er)已,今也(ye)(ye)(ye)见(jian)客(ke)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)志。婴(ying)闻察实(shi)者不(bu)(bu)留声,观行者不(bu)(bu)讥辞,婴(ying)可(ke)以(yi)辞而(er)无弃(qi)乎?”越(yue)石父(fu)曰(yue)(yue):“夫(fu)子(zi)(zi)礼之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),敢不(bu)(bu)敬(jing)从。”晏(yan)(yan)子(zi)(zi)遂以(yi)为(wei)客(ke)。俗(su)人(ren)有功则德,德则骄。今晏(yan)(yan)子(zi)(zi)功免人(ren)於厄(e)矣,而(er)反屈(qu)下之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),其去俗(su)亦远矣。此(ci)令(ling)功之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)道也(ye)(ye)(ye)。

子(zi)(zi)列(lie)(lie)子(zi)(zi)穷,容貌(mao)有(you)饥色。客有(you)言(yan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)於郑(zheng)子(zi)(zi)阳者(zhe),曰:“列(lie)(lie)御寇(kou),盖(gai)有(you)道之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)士也(ye)(ye),居君之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)国而穷,君无(wu)乃为(wei)不(bu)(bu)好士乎?”郑(zheng)子(zi)(zi)阳令官遗之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)粟数十秉。子(zi)(zi)列(lie)(lie)子(zi)(zi)出(chu)见使者(zhe),再拜而辞。使者(zhe)去,子(zi)(zi)列(lie)(lie)子(zi)(zi)入(ru),其妻望而拊心,曰:“闻为(wei)有(you)道者(zhe)妻子(zi)(zi),皆得(de)逸(yi)乐。今妻子(zi)(zi)有(you)饥色矣(yi),君过而遗先(xian)生食(shi),先(xian)生又弗受(shou)(shou)也(ye)(ye)。岂非(fei)命也(ye)(ye)哉(zai)?”子(zi)(zi)列(lie)(lie)子(zi)(zi)笑而谓之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)曰:“君非(fei)自知我(wo)也(ye)(ye),以人(ren)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)言(yan)而遗我(wo)粟也(ye)(ye),至已而罪我(wo)也(ye)(ye),有(you)罪且以人(ren)言(yan)。此吾(wu)所以不(bu)(bu)受(shou)(shou)也(ye)(ye)。”其卒(zu)民果作难(nan)(nan),杀(sha)子(zi)(zi)阳。受(shou)(shou)人(ren)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)养(yang)而不(bu)(bu)死其难(nan)(nan),则(ze)不(bu)(bu)义;死其难(nan)(nan),则(ze)死无(wu)道也(ye)(ye)。死无(wu)道,逆(ni)(ni)也(ye)(ye)。子(zi)(zi)列(lie)(lie)子(zi)(zi)除不(bu)(bu)义、去逆(ni)(ni)也(ye)(ye),岂不(bu)(bu)远哉(zai)?且方有(you)饥寒之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)患(huan)矣(yi),而犹不(bu)(bu)苟(gou)取,先(xian)见其化(hua)也(ye)(ye)。先(xian)见其化(hua)而已动,远乎性命之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)情也(ye)(ye)。

知接三曰(yue):人之目,以(yi)照(zhao)见(jian)之也,以(yi)瞑则与不见(jian),同。其所(suo)以(yi)为(wei)照(zhao)、所(suo)以(yi)为(wei)瞑异。

瞑士未尝(chang)(chang)照,故(gu)未尝(chang)(chang)见。瞑者(zhe)目无由接(jie)也(ye),无由接(jie)而(er)(er)言(yan)见,谎。智亦然(ran)。其所(suo)(suo)以(yi)接(jie)智、所(suo)(suo)以(yi)接(jie)不(bu)智同,其所(suo)(suo)能(neng)(neng)接(jie)、所(suo)(suo)不(bu)能(neng)(neng)接(jie)异。智者(zhe),其所(suo)(suo)能(neng)(neng)接(jie)远(yuan)(yuan)也(ye);愚者(zhe),其所(suo)(suo)能(neng)(neng)接(jie)近(jin)也(ye)。所(suo)(suo)能(neng)(neng)接(jie)近(jin)而(er)(er)告之(zhi)以(yi)远(yuan)(yuan)化,奚(xi)由相得?无由相得,说者(zhe)虽工,不(bu)能(neng)(neng)喻(yu)矣(yi)。戎人见暴布者(zhe)而(er)(er)问之(zhi)曰:“何以(yi)为(wei)之(zhi)莽(mang)莽(mang)也(ye)?”指(zhi)麻而(er)(er)示(shi)之(zhi)。怒曰:“孰之(zhi)壤壤也(ye),可以(yi)为(wei)之(zhi)莽(mang)莽(mang)也(ye)!”故(gu)亡国非无智士也(ye),非无贤者(zhe)也(ye),其主无由接(jie)故(gu)也(ye)。

无(wu)由接(jie)之患,自以为智,智必不(bu)接(jie)。今不(bu)接(jie)而(er)(er)自以为智,悖。若此则国无(wu)以存矣,主无(wu)以安矣。智无(wu)以接(jie),而(er)(er)自知弗智,则不(bu)闻(wen)(wen)亡国,不(bu)闻(wen)(wen)危君。

管(guan)仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)有疾,桓公(gong)(gong)(gong)往(wang)问之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),曰(yue)(yue):“仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)父(fu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)疾病矣,将何以(yi)(yi)教寡人(ren)?”管(guan)仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)曰(yue)(yue):“齐(qi)鄙人(ren)有谚曰(yue)(yue):‘居者(zhe)无载(zai),行(xing)者(zhe)无埋。’今臣(chen)将有远行(xing),胡可以(yi)(yi)问?”桓公(gong)(gong)(gong)曰(yue)(yue):“愿仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)父(fu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)无让也(ye)(ye)。”管(guan)仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)对曰(yue)(yue):“愿君(jun)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)远易牙、竖(shu)刀、常之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)巫、卫(wei)公(gong)(gong)(gong)子(zi)(zi)启(qi)方。”公(gong)(gong)(gong)曰(yue)(yue):“易牙烹其子(zi)(zi)以(yi)(yi)慊(qian)寡人(ren),犹尚可疑(yi)邪?”管(guan)仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)对曰(yue)(yue):“人(ren)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)情,非(fei)不(bu)爱其子(zi)(zi)也(ye)(ye),其子(zi)(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)忍,又(you)将何?”有於(wu)君(jun)公(gong)(gong)(gong)又(you)曰(yue)(yue):“竖(shu)刀自宫以(yi)(yi)近(jin)寡人(ren),犹尚可疑(yi)邪?”管(guan)仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)对曰(yue)(yue):“人(ren)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)情,非(fei)不(bu)爱其身也(ye)(ye),其身之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)忍,又(you)将何有於(wu)君(jun)?”公(gong)(gong)(gong)又(you)曰(yue)(yue):“常之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)巫审(shen)於(wu)死生,能去苛病,犹尚可疑(yi)邪?”管(guan)仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)对曰(yue)(yue):“死生,命也(ye)(ye)。

苛病(bing),失也。君(jun)不(bu)(bu)任其(qi)命、守(shou)其(qi)本,而恃(shi)常(chang)之(zhi)巫(wu),彼(bi)将以此(ci)无(wu)不(bu)(bu)为也。”公(gong)(gong)(gong)又曰:“卫公(gong)(gong)(gong)子启方事寡人十五年矣,其(qi)父(fu)(fu)死而不(bu)(bu)敢归(gui)哭,犹尚可疑邪?”管仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)对曰:“人之(zhi)情,非不(bu)(bu)爱其(qi)父(fu)(fu)也,其(qi)父(fu)(fu)之(zhi)忍,又将何有(you)於君(jun)?”公(gong)(gong)(gong)曰:“诺。”管仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)死,尽逐(zhu)之(zhi)。食不(bu)(bu)甘(gan),宫(gong)不(bu)(bu)治,苛病(bing)起,朝不(bu)(bu)肃。居三年,公(gong)(gong)(gong)曰:“仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)父(fu)(fu)不(bu)(bu)亦(yi)过乎!孰谓仲(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)(zhong)父(fu)(fu)尽之(zhi)乎!”於是皆复召而反(fan)。明年,公(gong)(gong)(gong)有(you)病(bing),常(chang)之(zhi)巫(wu)从(cong)中出曰:“公(gong)(gong)(gong)将以某日薨。”易牙、竖刀、常(chang)之(zhi)巫(wu)相与作乱,塞宫(gong)门,筑(zhu)高(gao)墙(qiang),不(bu)(bu)通(tong)人,矫以公(gong)(gong)(gong)令。

有一妇(fu)人逾垣入,至(zhi)公(gong)所(suo)。公(gong)曰(yue):“我(wo)(wo)欲(yu)(yu)食。”妇(fu)人曰(yue):“吾无(wu)所(suo)得(de)(de)。”公(gong)又曰(yue):“我(wo)(wo)欲(yu)(yu)饮。”妇(fu)人曰(yue):“吾无(wu)所(suo)得(de)(de)。”公(gong)曰(yue):“何(he)故?”对(dui)曰(yue):“常(chang)之(zhi)(zhi)巫从中出(chu)曰(yue):‘公(gong)将以(yi)某日薨。’易牙、竖刀、常(chang)之(zhi)(zhi)巫相与作乱,塞宫(gong)门(men),筑高(gao)墙,不通(tong)人,故无(wu)所(suo)得(de)(de)。卫(wei)公(gong)子(zi)启方以(yi)书社四(si)十下卫(wei)。”公(gong)慨焉叹(tan)涕出(chu)曰(yue):“嗟乎(hu)!圣人之(zhi)(zhi)所(suo)见,岂不远哉!若死(si)者有知,我(wo)(wo)将何(he)面(mian)目以(yi)见仲(zhong)(zhong)父乎(hu)?”蒙衣(yi)袂而(er)绝乎(hu)寿宫(gong)。虫流出(chu)於(wu)户,上盖以(yi)杨门(men)之(zhi)(zhi)扇,三月不葬。此(ci)不卒听管仲(zhong)(zhong)之(zhi)(zhi)言也(ye)。桓公(gong)非轻难而(er)恶管子(zi)也(ye),无(wu)由接(jie)(jie)见也(ye)。无(wu)由接(jie)(jie),固(gu)却其(qi)忠言,而(er)爱其(qi)所(suo)尊贵(gui)也(ye)。

悔过四曰:穴深寻(xun),则人之(zhi)臂必不能极矣。是何也?不至故也。智(zhi)亦有(you)所不至。

所不(bu)至(zhi),说者虽辩,为道虽精,不(bu)能见矣(yi)。故箕子(zi)穷于商,范蠡(li)流乎江(jiang)。

昔秦缪(mou)公兴(xing)师(shi)(shi)以(yi)(yi)袭郑,蹇(jian)叔谏曰(yue):“不(bu)(bu)(bu)可。臣闻之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),袭国邑,以(yi)(yi)车不(bu)(bu)(bu)过百(bai)里(li),以(yi)(yi)人(ren)不(bu)(bu)(bu)过三十(shi)里(li),皆以(yi)(yi)其(qi)(qi)(qi)气(qi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)趫(qiao)与力之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)盛(sheng)至(zhi),是以(yi)(yi)犯敌能灭(mie),去之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)能速(su)。今(jin)行(xing)数千里(li),又(you)绝诸侯之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)地以(yi)(yi)袭国,臣不(bu)(bu)(bu)知(zhi)其(qi)(qi)(qi)可也(ye)。君(jun)其(qi)(qi)(qi)重图之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”缪(mou)公不(bu)(bu)(bu)听(ting)也(ye)。蹇(jian)叔送师(shi)(shi)於(wu)门外(wai)而哭(ku)(ku)曰(yue):“师(shi)(shi)乎!见(jian)其(qi)(qi)(qi)出(chu)而不(bu)(bu)(bu)见(jian)其(qi)(qi)(qi)入也(ye)。”蹇(jian)叔有子(zi)曰(yue)申与视,与师(shi)(shi)偕行(xing)。蹇(jian)叔谓其(qi)(qi)(qi)子(zi)曰(yue):“晋若遏师(shi)(shi)必(bi)於(wu)淆。女死,不(bu)(bu)(bu)於(wu)南方之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)岸,必(bi)於(wu)北(bei)方之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)岸,为(wei)吾尸女之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)易。”缪(mou)公闻之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),使(shi)人(ren)让蹇(jian)叔曰(yue):“寡人(ren)兴(xing)师(shi)(shi),未知(zhi)何(he)如(ru)。今(jin)哭(ku)(ku)而送之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),是哭(ku)(ku)吾师(shi)(shi)也(ye)。”蹇(jian)叔对(dui)曰(yue):“臣不(bu)(bu)(bu)敢哭(ku)(ku)师(shi)(shi)也(ye)。臣老(lao)矣,有子(zi)二人(ren),皆与师(shi)(shi)行(xing)。

比其(qi)(qi)(qi)反(fan)也(ye)(ye),非(fei)彼死,则(ze)臣必死矣,是故哭(ku)。”师行过(guo)周(zhou),王孙满要门而(er)(er)(er)窥之(zhi)(zhi),曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“呜(wu)呼!是师必有疵。若(ruo)无(wu)疵,吾(wu)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)复言(yan)道矣。夫秦(qin)(qin)非(fei)他,周(zhou)室之(zhi)(zhi)建国(guo)(guo)也(ye)(ye)。过(guo)天(tian)子(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)城,宜橐甲(jia)束兵,左右(you)皆下,以(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)天(tian)子(zi)礼。今(jin)袀(jun)服(fu)回建,左不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)轼,而(er)(er)(er)右(you)之(zhi)(zhi)超乘(cheng)者(zhe)(zhe)五百乘(cheng),力则(ze)多矣,然而(er)(er)(er)寡礼,安得无(wu)疵?”师过(guo)周(zhou)而(er)(er)(er)东。郑贾人(ren)(ren)弦高、奚(xi)施将西市於(wu)(wu)周(zhou),道遇秦(qin)(qin)师,曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“嘻!师所(suo)从来者(zhe)(zhe)远矣。此(ci)(ci)(ci)必袭郑。”遽使(shi)奚(xi)施归告(gao),乃矫郑伯之(zhi)(zhi)命(ming)以(yi)劳之(zhi)(zhi),曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“寡君固(gu)闻大(da)(da)(da)国(guo)(guo)之(zhi)(zhi)将至久(jiu)矣。大(da)(da)(da)国(guo)(guo)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)至,寡君与(yu)士(shi)卒(zu)窃为(wei)(wei)(wei)大(da)(da)(da)国(guo)(guo)忧(you)(you),日无(wu)所(suo)与(yu)焉,惟恐士(shi)卒(zu)罢弊与(yu)糗粮匮乏。何其(qi)(qi)(qi)久(jiu)也(ye)(ye)!使(shi)人(ren)(ren)臣犒劳以(yi)璧(bi),膳以(yi)十二牛。”秦(qin)(qin)三(san)帅(shuai)对曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“寡君之(zhi)(zhi)无(wu)使(shi)也(ye)(ye),使(shi)其(qi)(qi)(qi)三(san)臣丙(bing)也(ye)(ye)、术也(ye)(ye)、视也(ye)(ye)於(wu)(wu)东边候<日晋>之(zhi)(zhi)道,过(guo),是以(yi)迷惑,陷(xian)入大(da)(da)(da)国(guo)(guo)之(zhi)(zhi)地。”不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)敢固(gu)辞,再拜稽首受(shou)之(zhi)(zhi)。三(san)帅(shuai)乃惧而(er)(er)(er)谋曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“我行数千(qian)里,数绝诸(zhu)侯之(zhi)(zhi)地以(yi)袭人(ren)(ren),未至而(er)(er)(er)人(ren)(ren)已(yi)先(xian)知之(zhi)(zhi)矣,此(ci)(ci)(ci)其(qi)(qi)(qi)备必已(yi)盛矣。”还师去(qu)之(zhi)(zhi)。当是时也(ye)(ye),晋文公(gong)适薨,未葬。先(xian)轸(zhen)言(yan)於(wu)(wu)襄公(gong)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“秦(qin)(qin)师不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)可(ke)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)击(ji)(ji)(ji)也(ye)(ye),臣请击(ji)(ji)(ji)之(zhi)(zhi)。”襄公(gong)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“先(xian)君薨,尸在堂,见(jian)秦(qin)(qin)师利而(er)(er)(er)因击(ji)(ji)(ji)之(zhi)(zhi),无(wu)乃非(fei)为(wei)(wei)(wei)人(ren)(ren)子(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)道欤!”先(xian)轸(zhen)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)吊(diao)吾(wu)丧,不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)忧(you)(you)吾(wu)哀,是死吾(wu)君而(er)(er)(er)弱(ruo)其(qi)(qi)(qi)孤(gu)也(ye)(ye)。若(ruo)是而(er)(er)(er)击(ji)(ji)(ji),可(ke)大(da)(da)(da)强。臣请击(ji)(ji)(ji)之(zhi)(zhi)。”襄公(gong)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)得已(yi)而(er)(er)(er)许之(zhi)(zhi)。先(xian)轸(zhen)遏秦(qin)(qin)师於(wu)(wu)淆而(er)(er)(er)击(ji)(ji)(ji)之(zhi)(zhi),大(da)(da)(da)败之(zhi)(zhi),获(huo)其(qi)(qi)(qi)三(san)帅(shuai)以(yi)归。缪公(gong)闻之(zhi)(zhi),素服(fu)庙临(lin),以(yi)说於(wu)(wu)众(zhong)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“天(tian)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)为(wei)(wei)(wei)秦(qin)(qin)国(guo)(guo),使(shi)寡人(ren)(ren)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)用蹇叔之(zhi)(zhi)谏,以(yi)至於(wu)(wu)此(ci)(ci)(ci)患。”此(ci)(ci)(ci)缪公(gong)非(fei)欲败於(wu)(wu)殽也(ye)(ye),智(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)至也(ye)(ye)。智(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)至则(ze)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)信。言(yan)之(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)信,师之(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)反(fan)也(ye)(ye)从此(ci)(ci)(ci)生。故不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)至之(zhi)(zhi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)害大(da)(da)(da)矣。

乐成五曰:大(da)智不形,大(da)器晚成,大(da)音希(xi)声。

禹(yu)之(zhi)决江水也(ye)(ye),民聚瓦砾。事已成,功(gong)(gong)已立,为万世利。禹(yu)之(zhi)所(suo)见(jian)者远也(ye)(ye),而(er)民莫之(zhi)知。故民不可与(yu)虑化举(ju)始,而(er)可以乐成功(gong)(gong)。

孔(kong)子(zi)(zi)始用於鲁,鲁人鹥诵(song)之(zhi)(zhi)曰:“麛裘(qiu)(qiu)而韠(bi),投之(zhi)(zhi)无戾。韠(bi)而麛裘(qiu)(qiu)。投之(zhi)(zhi)无邮。”用三年,男子(zi)(zi)行乎(hu)途右(you),女子(zi)(zi)行乎(hu)途左,财物之(zhi)(zhi)遗者(zhe),民(min)莫之(zhi)(zhi)举。大(da)智之(zhi)(zhi)用,固难逾也。子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan)始治(zhi)郑,使田(tian)有(you)封洫,都(dou)鄙有(you)服(fu)。民(min)相(xiang)与诵(song)之(zhi)(zhi)曰:“我有(you)田(tian)畴(chou),而子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan)赋之(zhi)(zhi)。我有(you)衣冠,而子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan)贮之(zhi)(zhi)。孰(shu)杀(sha)子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan),吾其(qi)与之(zhi)(zhi)。”后三年,民(min)又诵(song)之(zhi)(zhi)曰:“我有(you)田(tian)畴(chou),而子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan)殖(zhi)之(zhi)(zhi)。我有(you)子(zi)(zi)弟,而子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan)诲之(zhi)(zhi)。子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan)若死(si),其(qi)使谁嗣之(zhi)(zhi)?”使郑简、鲁哀当(dang)民(min)之(zhi)(zhi)诽訾也,而因弗遂用,则国必无功矣(yi),子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan)、孔(kong)子(zi)(zi)必无能矣(yi)。非徒不能也,虽罪施,於民(min)可(ke)也。今(jin)世皆称简公、哀公为贤,称子(zi)(zi)产(chan)(chan)(chan)、孔(kong)子(zi)(zi)为能。此二(er)君者(zhe),达乎(hu)任(ren)人也。

舟车之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)始见也(ye)(ye),三(san)世然后安之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。夫开善(shan)岂易哉!故听无(wu)事治。事治之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)立也(ye)(ye),人主贤也(ye)(ye)。魏(wei)攻中(zhong)山(shan)(shan)(shan),乐羊将。已得中(zhong)山(shan)(shan)(shan),还反(fan)报文(wen)侯,有贵功之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)色。文(wen)侯知之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),命主书(shu)(shu)曰:“群臣宾客所献(xian)书(shu)(shu)者,操以进(jin)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”主书(shu)(shu)举两箧以进(jin)。令将军视(shi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),书(shu)(shu)尽难攻中(zhong)山(shan)(shan)(shan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)事也(ye)(ye)。将军还走,北面再拜曰:“中(zhong)山(shan)(shan)(shan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)举,非臣之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)力,君(jun)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)功也(ye)(ye)。”当此时也(ye)(ye),论士殆之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)日几矣,中(zhong)山(shan)(shan)(shan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)不取也(ye)(ye),奚宜二箧哉?一寸而亡矣。

文侯,贤主(zhu)也,而(er)犹若此(ci),又况於中主(zhu)邪?中主(zhu)之患(huan),不能勿为,而(er)不可与莫为。

凡举无(wu)易之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)事,气志(zhi)(zhi)视听(ting)动(dong)作无(wu)非是(shi)(shi)者,人臣(chen)(chen)(chen)且孰敢以(yi)非是(shi)(shi)邪疑(yi)为(wei)(wei)哉?皆(jie)壹(yi)於(wu)为(wei)(wei),则无(wu)败事矣(yi)。此汤(tang)、武之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所以(yi)大(da)立(li)(li)功(gong)於(wu)夏、商(shang),而(er)(er)(er)句践之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所以(yi)能(neng)报其雠也(ye)(ye)。以(yi)小弱皆(jie)壹(yi)於(wu)为(wei)(wei)而(er)(er)(er)犹若此,又况(kuang)於(wu)以(yi)强大(da)乎!魏(wei)襄(xiang)王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)与群(qun)臣(chen)(chen)(chen)饮,酒酣,王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)为(wei)(wei)群(qun)臣(chen)(chen)(chen)祝,令(ling)群(qun)臣(chen)(chen)(chen)皆(jie)得(de)志(zhi)(zhi)。史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)兴(xing)而(er)(er)(er)对曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“群(qun)臣(chen)(chen)(chen)或贤或不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)肖,贤者得(de)志(zhi)(zhi)则可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke),不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)肖者得(de)志(zhi)(zhi)则不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)。”王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“皆(jie)如西门豹之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)为(wei)(wei)人臣(chen)(chen)(chen)也(ye)(ye)。”史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)对曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“魏(wei)氏之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)行(xing)田(tian)也(ye)(ye)以(yi)百(bai)亩(mu),邺独(du)二百(bai)亩(mu),是(shi)(shi)田(tian)恶也(ye)(ye)。漳水(shui)(shui)在其旁,而(er)(er)(er)西门豹弗知(zhi)(zhi)用,是(shi)(shi)其愚也(ye)(ye)。知(zhi)(zhi)而(er)(er)(er)弗言,是(shi)(shi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)忠(zhong)也(ye)(ye)。愚与不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)忠(zhong),不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)效也(ye)(ye)。”魏(wei)王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)无(wu)以(yi)应之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。明日,召(zhao)史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)而(er)(er)(er)问焉,曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“漳水(shui)(shui)犹可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)以(yi)灌(guan)邺田(tian)乎?”史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)对曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)。”王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“子何不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)为(wei)(wei)寡(gua)(gua)人为(wei)(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)?”史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“臣(chen)(chen)(chen)恐王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)能(neng)为(wei)(wei)也(ye)(ye)。”王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“子诚能(neng)为(wei)(wei)寡(gua)(gua)人为(wei)(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),寡(gua)(gua)人尽听(ting)子矣(yi)。”史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)敬诺,言之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)於(wu)王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“臣(chen)(chen)(chen)为(wei)(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),民(min)(min)必大(da)怨臣(chen)(chen)(chen),大(da)者死,其次(ci)乃藉(jie)臣(chen)(chen)(chen)。臣(chen)(chen)(chen)虽死藉(jie),愿王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)使他人遂之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)也(ye)(ye)。王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“诺。”使之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)为(wei)(wei)邺令(ling)。史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)因(yin)往为(wei)(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。邺民(min)(min)大(da)怨,欲藉(jie)史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)。史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)敢出而(er)(er)(er)避之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)乃使他人遂为(wei)(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。水(shui)(shui)已(yi)行(xing),民(min)(min)大(da)得(de)其利,相与歌之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“邺有圣(sheng)令(ling),时为(wei)(wei)史(shi)(shi)(shi)公。决(jue)漳水(shui)(shui),灌(guan)邺旁。终古斥卤,生之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)稻粱。”使民(min)(min)知(zhi)(zhi)可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)与不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke),则无(wu)所用矣(yi)。贤主(zhu)忠(zhong)臣(chen)(chen)(chen),不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)能(neng)导愚教陋,则名不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)冠后、实不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)及(ji)世(shi)矣(yi)。史(shi)(shi)(shi)起(qi)非不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)知(zhi)(zhi)化也(ye)(ye),以(yi)忠(zhong)于主(zhu)也(ye)(ye)。魏(wei)襄(xiang)王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)谓能(neng)决(jue)善(shan)矣(yi)。诚能(neng)决(jue)善(shan),众虽喧哗,而(er)(er)(er)弗为(wei)(wei)变。功(gong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)难立(li)(li)也(ye)(ye),其必由哅(xiong)々邪!国之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)残亡,亦犹此也(ye)(ye)。故哅(xiong)々之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)中(zhong)(zhong),不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)可(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)(ke)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)味也(ye)(ye)。中(zhong)(zhong)主(zhu)以(yi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)哅(xiong)々也(ye)(ye)止善(shan),贤主(zhu)以(yi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)哅(xiong)々也(ye)(ye)立(li)(li)功(gong)。

察微六曰:使治乱(luan)存(cun)亡(wang)(wang)若高山之(zhi)与(yu)深(shen)溪,若白垩之(zhi)与(yu)黑漆(qi),则无所用智,虽愚犹(you)可(ke)矣。且治乱(luan)存(cun)亡(wang)(wang)则不然。如可(ke)知(zhi),如可(ke)不知(zhi);如可(ke)见(jian),如可(ke)不见(jian)。故(gu)智士贤者相(xiang)与(yu)积心愁虑以求之(zhi),犹(you)尚有管(guan)叔、蔡叔之(zhi)事与(yu)东夷八国不听(ting)之(zhi)谋。故(gu)治乱(luan)存(cun)亡(wang)(wang),其始若秋毫。察其秋毫,则大(da)物不过矣。

鲁国之(zhi)(zhi)法,鲁人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)为人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)臣妾於诸侯(hou)(hou),有能(neng)赎(shu)(shu)之(zhi)(zhi)者(zhe),取其(qi)(qi)金(jin)於府。子(zi)(zi)贡(gong)赎(shu)(shu)鲁人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)於诸侯(hou)(hou),来而让(rang),不取其(qi)(qi)金(jin)。孔(kong)子(zi)(zi)曰:“赐失之(zhi)(zhi)矣。自(zi)今(jin)以往,鲁人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)不赎(shu)(shu)人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)矣。”取其(qi)(qi)金(jin),则(ze)无损於行;不取其(qi)(qi)金(jin),则(ze)不复赎(shu)(shu)人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)矣。子(zi)(zi)路拯溺(ni)(ni)者(zhe),其(qi)(qi)人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)拜之(zhi)(zhi)以牛,子(zi)(zi)路受之(zhi)(zhi)。孔(kong)子(zi)(zi)曰:“鲁人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)必拯溺(ni)(ni)者(zhe)矣。”孔(kong)子(zi)(zi)见之(zhi)(zhi)以细(xi),观化远也。

楚(chu)之(zhi)(zhi)边邑(yi)曰卑(bei)梁(liang)(liang)(liang),其(qi)处(chu)女(nv)与吴之(zhi)(zhi)边邑(yi)处(chu)女(nv)桑於境上(shang),戏而(er)伤卑(bei)梁(liang)(liang)(liang)之(zhi)(zhi)处(chu)女(nv)。卑(bei)梁(liang)(liang)(liang)人(ren)操其(qi)伤子以让吴人(ren),吴人(ren)应之(zhi)(zhi)不恭,怒,杀(sha)而(er)去之(zhi)(zhi)。吴人(ren)往报之(zhi)(zhi),尽屠其(qi)家(jia)。

卑梁(liang)公怒(nu),曰:“吴人焉(yan)敢攻(gong)吾邑?”举兵反(fan)(fan)攻(gong)之(zhi),老弱尽杀之(zhi)矣(yi)。吴王夷昧(mei)闻之(zhi),怒(nu),使人举兵侵楚之(zhi)边邑,克(ke)夷而后去之(zhi)。吴、楚以此大隆。吴公子(zi)(zi)光又率(lv)师与楚人战於鸡父,大败楚人,获其帅潘(pan)子(zi)(zi)臣、小帷子(zi)(zi)、陈夏啮(nie)。又反(fan)(fan)伐郢,得(de)荆平王之(zhi)夫人以归,实为(wei)鸡父之(zhi)战。凡持(chi)国,太上(shang)知(zhi)(zhi)始,其次知(zhi)(zhi)终,其次知(zhi)(zhi)中。

三(san)者不(bu)能(neng),国必危,身(shen)必穷(qiong)。《孝经(jing)》曰:“高而(er)不(bu)危,所以长守(shou)贵也;满(man)而(er)不(bu)溢,所以长守(shou)富也。富贵不(bu)离(li)其身(shen),然后(hou)能(neng)保其社稷,而(er)和其民人。”楚不(bu)能(neng)之也。

郑(zheng)公子归生率师伐宋(song)。宋(song)华(hua)元(yuan)率师应之大(da)棘,羊斟(zhen)御(yu)。明日(ri)将(jiang)战(zhan),华(hua)元(yuan)杀羊飨士(shi),羊斟(zhen)不(bu)与焉(yan)。明日(ri)战(zhan),怒谓华(hua)元(yuan)曰:“昨日(ri)之事,子为(wei)制(zhi);今(jin)日(ri)之事,我为(wei)制(zhi)。”遂(sui)驱(qu)入(ru)於郑(zheng)师。宋(song)师败(bai)绩,华(hua)元(yuan)虏(lu)。夫弩机差以米则不(bu)发。战(zhan),大(da)机也。

飨(xiang)士(shi)而忘其御也(ye),将以此(ci)败而为(wei)虏,岂不宜哉!故凡(fan)战必悉熟偏(pian)备,知彼知己,然后(hou)可也(ye)。

鲁(lu)(lu)季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)与郈(hou)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)斗(dou)鸡(ji),郈(hou)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)介其鸡(ji),季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)为(wei)之(zhi)金距。季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)之(zhi)鸡(ji)不(bu)(bu)胜,季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)平子怒(nu),因归郈(hou)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)之(zhi)宫,而益其宅。郈(hou)昭伯(bo)怒(nu),伤(shang)之(zhi)於昭公(gong)(gong),曰(yue):“禘於襄公(gong)(gong)之(zhi)庙(miao)也,舞(wu)者二人而已,其馀(yu)尽舞(wu)於季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)。季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)之(zhi)舞(wu)道,无上久矣。弗诛,必(bi)危社稷(ji)。”公(gong)(gong)怒(nu),不(bu)(bu)审,乃使郈(hou)昭伯(bo)将(jiang)师(shi)徒(tu)以攻季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi),遂入其宫。仲(zhong)孙氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)、叔孙氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)相(xiang)与谋曰(yue):“无季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi),则(ze)吾(wu)族(zu)也死亡无日矣。”遂起甲以往,陷西北隅以入之(zhi),三家为(wei)一(yi),郈(hou)昭伯(bo)不(bu)(bu)胜而死。昭公(gong)(gong)惧,遂出(chu)奔齐,卒於干(gan)侯(hou)。鲁(lu)(lu)昭听伤(shang)而不(bu)(bu)辩其义,惧以鲁(lu)(lu)国(guo)(guo)不(bu)(bu)胜季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi),而不(bu)(bu)知仲(zhong)、叔氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)之(zhi)恐,而与季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)同(tong)患也。是不(bu)(bu)达乎人心(xin)也。不(bu)(bu)达乎人心(xin),位虽尊。何益於安也?以鲁(lu)(lu)国(guo)(guo)恐不(bu)(bu)胜一(yi)季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi),况於三季(ji)(ji)(ji)(ji)?同(tong)恶固(gu)相(xiang)助。权物若此其过也,非独仲(zhong)、叔氏(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)(shi)也,鲁(lu)(lu)国(guo)(guo)皆(jie)恐。鲁(lu)(lu)国(guo)(guo)皆(jie)恐,则(ze)是与一(yi)国(guo)(guo)为(wei)敌(di)也,其得至干(gan)侯(hou)而卒犹远。

去宥七曰:东(dong)方(fang)之(zhi)墨(mo)者(zhe)谢(xie)子,将西见(jian)秦(qin)惠王。惠王问(wen)秦(qin)之(zhi)墨(mo)者(zhe)唐姑果。唐姑果恐王之(zhi)亲(qin)谢(xie)子贤於己也,对曰:“谢(xie)子,东(dong)方(fang)之(zhi)辩士也。其为人甚险,将奋於说,以取少主(zhu)也。”王因(yin)藏怒以待(dai)之(zhi)。谢(xie)子至(zhi),说王,王弗听。谢(xie)子不说,遂(sui)辞而行(xing)。

凡听言以(yi)求善也,所(suo)言苟善,虽(sui)奋於(wu)取(qu)(qu)少主,何(he)(he)损?所(suo)言不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)善,虽(sui)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)奋於(wu)取(qu)(qu)少主,何(he)(he)益?不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)以(yi)善为(wei)(wei)之(zhi)悫,而(er)徒以(yi)取(qu)(qu)少主为(wei)(wei)之(zhi)悖(bei),惠王失所(suo)以(yi)为(wei)(wei)听矣。用志若是,见客虽(sui)劳(lao),耳(er)目虽(sui)弊,犹不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)得所(suo)谓也。此史定(ding)所(suo)以(yi)得行其(qi)邪也,此史定(ding)所(suo)以(yi)得饰鬼以(yi)人、罪杀(sha)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)辜,群臣(chen)扰乱,国几(ji)大危(wei)也。人之(zhi)老也,形(xing)益衰(shuai)而(er)智益盛。今惠王之(zhi)老也,形(xing)与智皆衰(shuai)邪?荆(jing)威(wei)王学书於(wu)沈(shen)尹(yin)(yin)华(hua),昭厘恶之(zhi)。威(wei)王好制(zhi),有中谢佐制(zhi)者,为(wei)(wei)昭厘谓威(wei)王曰(yue)(yue):“国人皆曰(yue)(yue):王乃沈(shen)尹(yin)(yin)华(hua)之(zhi)弟子也。”王不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)说,因疏沈(shen)尹(yin)(yin)华(hua)。中谢,细人也,一言而(er)令威(wei)王不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)闻先王之(zhi)术,文学之(zhi)士(shi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)得进,令昭厘得行其(qi)私。故(gu)细人之(zhi)言,不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)可(ke)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)察也。且数怒人主,以(yi)为(wei)(wei)奸人除(chu)路(lu),奸路(lu)以(yi)除(chu),而(er)恶壅却,岂不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)难哉?夫激(ji)(ji)(ji)矢则远,激(ji)(ji)(ji)水则旱,激(ji)(ji)(ji)主则悖(bei),悖(bei)则无君子矣。夫不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)可(ke)激(ji)(ji)(ji)者,其(qi)唯先有度。

邻(lin)父有(you)与人(ren)邻(lin)者,有(you)枯梧树,其(qi)(qi)邻(lin)之父言梧树之不(bu)善也(ye)(ye),邻(lin)人(ren)遽伐之。邻(lin)父因(yin)请而以为(wei)薪(xin)。其(qi)(qi)人(ren)不(bu)说曰:“邻(lin)者若此其(qi)(qi)险也(ye)(ye),岂可为(wei)之邻(lin)哉?”此有(you)所宥也(ye)(ye)。

夫请以(yi)为薪(xin)与弗请,此不可以(yi)疑枯梧(wu)树之(zhi)善(shan)与不善(shan)也(ye)。齐人有欲得金者,清旦,被衣冠(guan),往鬻(yu)金者之(zhi)所(suo)(suo),见人操金,攫(jue)而夺之(zhi)。吏(li)搏而束(shu)缚之(zhi),问曰(yue):“人皆(jie)在焉,子攫(jue)人之(zhi)金,何故?”对吏(li)曰(yue):“殊不见人,徒见金耳。”此真(zhen)大有所(suo)(suo)宥也(ye)。

夫人有(you)所(suo)宥(you)者,固以(yi)昼为昏(hun),以(yi)白(bai)为黑,以(yi)尧为桀(jie)。宥(you)之为败亦(yi)大矣。亡国之主(zhu),其皆甚有(you)所(suo)宥(you)邪(xie)?故凡人必别(bie)宥(you)然(ran)后知,别(bie)宥(you)则能全其天(tian)矣。

正名(ming)八曰(yue):名(ming)正则治,名(ming)丧则乱。使名(ming)丧者(zhe),淫说也。说淫则可不(bu)可而(er)(er)(er)然(ran)不(bu)然(ran),是(shi)不(bu)是(shi)而(er)(er)(er)非不(bu)非。故君(jun)子之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)说也,足(zu)(zu)以言贤者(zhe)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)实(shi)、不(bu)肖(xiao)者(zhe)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)充而(er)(er)(er)已矣,足(zu)(zu)以喻治之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所(suo)(suo)悖、乱之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所(suo)(suo)由(you)起而(er)(er)(er)已矣,足(zu)(zu)以知物之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)情、人之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所(suo)(suo)获(huo)以生而(er)(er)(er)已矣。

凡(fan)乱者,刑名不(bu)当也(ye)。人主虽不(bu)肖(xiao),犹(you)若用贤(xian),犹(you)若听善,犹(you)若为可(ke)者。其患在乎所(suo)(suo)(suo)谓贤(xian)从不(bu)肖(xiao)也(ye),所(suo)(suo)(suo)为善而(er)从邪辟(pi),所(suo)(suo)(suo)谓可(ke)从悖(bei)逆也(ye)。是刑名异(yi)充,而(er)声实异(yi)谓也(ye)。夫(fu)贤(xian)不(bu)肖(xiao),善邪辟(pi),可(ke)悖(bei)逆,国不(bu)乱,身不(bu)危(wei),奚待(dai)也(ye)?齐(qi)湣王(wang)是以。

知说士(shi)(shi)(shi),而(er)不(bu)(bu)知所(suo)(suo)(suo)谓士(shi)(shi)(shi)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。故(gu)尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)问其(qi)(qi)故(gu),而(er)王(wang)(wang)无以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)应。此公(gong)(gong)(gong)玉丹(dan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所(suo)(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)见(jian)(jian)(jian)信、而(er)卓齿(chi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所(suo)(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)见(jian)(jian)(jian)任(ren)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。任(ren)卓齿(chi)而(er)信公(gong)(gong)(gong)玉丹(dan),岂非(fei)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)自雠邪?尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)见(jian)(jian)(jian)齐(qi)(qi)王(wang)(wang),齐(qi)(qi)王(wang)(wang)谓尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“寡人(ren)甚好士(shi)(shi)(shi)。”尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“愿闻(wen)何谓士(shi)(shi)(shi)?”王(wang)(wang)未(wei)有(you)(you)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)应。尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“今有(you)(you)人(ren)於此,事(shi)亲则(ze)(ze)(ze)孝,事(shi)君则(ze)(ze)(ze)忠,交(jiao)友则(ze)(ze)(ze)信,居乡则(ze)(ze)(ze)悌。有(you)(you)此四行(xing)者(zhe),可(ke)(ke)谓士(shi)(shi)(shi)乎(hu)(hu)(hu)?”齐(qi)(qi)王(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue):“此真(zhen)所(suo)(suo)(suo)谓士(shi)(shi)(shi)已。”尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“王(wang)(wang)得(de)若(ruo)(ruo)人(ren),肯(ken)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)臣(chen)(chen)乎(hu)(hu)(hu)?”王(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue):“所(suo)(suo)(suo)愿而(er)不(bu)(bu)能得(de)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。”尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“使(shi)若(ruo)(ruo)人(ren)於庙朝中深见(jian)(jian)(jian)侮(wu)(wu)(wu)而(er)不(bu)(bu)斗(dou)(dou),王(wang)(wang)将以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)臣(chen)(chen)乎(hu)(hu)(hu)?”王(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue):“否。大夫(fu)见(jian)(jian)(jian)侮(wu)(wu)(wu)而(er)不(bu)(bu)斗(dou)(dou),则(ze)(ze)(ze)是(shi)辱也(ye)(ye)(ye),辱则(ze)(ze)(ze)寡人(ren)弗以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)臣(chen)(chen)矣。”尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“虽(sui)见(jian)(jian)(jian)侮(wu)(wu)(wu)而(er)不(bu)(bu)斗(dou)(dou),未(wei)失(shi)其(qi)(qi)四行(xing)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。未(wei)失(shi)其(qi)(qi)四行(xing)者(zhe),是(shi)未(wei)失(shi)其(qi)(qi)所(suo)(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)士(shi)(shi)(shi)一(yi)矣。未(wei)失(shi)其(qi)(qi)所(suo)(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)士(shi)(shi)(shi)一(yi),而(er)王(wang)(wang)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)臣(chen)(chen),失(shi)其(qi)(qi)所(suo)(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)士(shi)(shi)(shi)一(yi),而(er)王(wang)(wang)不(bu)(bu)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)臣(chen)(chen),则(ze)(ze)(ze)向之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所(suo)(suo)(suo)谓士(shi)(shi)(shi)者(zhe),乃(nai)士(shi)(shi)(shi)乎(hu)(hu)(hu)”?王(wang)(wang)无以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)应。尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“今有(you)(you)人(ren)於此,将治其(qi)(qi)国,民(min)(min)有(you)(you)非(fei)则(ze)(ze)(ze)非(fei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),民(min)(min)无非(fei)则(ze)(ze)(ze)非(fei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)民(min)(min)有(you)(you)罪(zui)(zui)则(ze)(ze)(ze)罚之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),民(min)(min)无罪(zui)(zui)则(ze)(ze)(ze)罚之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),而(er)恶民(min)(min)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)难(nan)治,可(ke)(ke)乎(hu)(hu)(hu)?”王(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue):“不(bu)(bu)可(ke)(ke)。”尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“窃观(guan)下吏(li)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)治齐(qi)(qi)也(ye)(ye)(ye),方若(ruo)(ruo)此也(ye)(ye)(ye)。”王(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue):“使(shi)寡人(ren)治信若(ruo)(ruo)是(shi),则(ze)(ze)(ze)民(min)(min)虽(sui)不(bu)(bu)治,寡人(ren)弗怨也(ye)(ye)(ye)。意(yi)者(zhe)未(wei)至然(ran)乎(hu)(hu)(hu)!”尹(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)(yin)文(wen)曰(yue)(yue):“言(yan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)(bu)敢无说,请言(yan)其(qi)(qi)说。王(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)令(ling)曰(yue)(yue):‘杀人(ren)者(zhe)死,伤人(ren)者(zhe)刑。’民(min)(min)有(you)(you)畏王(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)令(ling)、深见(jian)(jian)(jian)侮(wu)(wu)(wu)而(er)不(bu)(bu)敢斗(dou)(dou)者(zhe),是(shi)全王(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)令(ling)也(ye)(ye)(ye),而(er)王(wang)(wang)曰(yue)(yue):‘见(jian)(jian)(jian)侮(wu)(wu)(wu)而(er)不(bu)(bu)敢斗(dou)(dou),是(shi)辱也(ye)(ye)(ye)。’夫(fu)谓之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)辱者(zhe),非(fei)此之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)谓也(ye)(ye)(ye)。以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)臣(chen)(chen)不(bu)(bu)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)臣(chen)(chen)者(zhe),罪(zui)(zui)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。此无罪(zui)(zui)而(er)王(wang)(wang)罚之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。”齐(qi)(qi)王(wang)(wang)无以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)应。论皆若(ruo)(ruo)此,故(gu)国残身危,走而(er)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)谷(gu),如(ru)卫。齐(qi)(qi)湣王(wang)(wang),周室之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)孟侯也(ye)(ye)(ye),太(tai)公(gong)(gong)(gong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)所(suo)(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)老(lao)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。桓公(gong)(gong)(gong)尝以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)此霸矣,管仲之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)辩名实(shi)审也(ye)(ye)(ye)。
