开春一曰:开春始雷,则蛰(zhe)虫动矣(yi)(yi)(yi)。时雨降,则草(cao)木育矣(yi)(yi)(yi)。饮(yin)食(shi)居处适(shi),则九窍百节千脉皆通利矣(yi)(yi)(yi)。王(wang)(wang)(wang)者(zhe)(zhe)厚其(qi)德,积众善(shan)(shan),而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)凤(feng)皇圣人(ren)皆来(lai)至矣(yi)(yi)(yi)。共伯和修其(qi)行(xing),好(hao)贤仁,而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)海内皆以(yi)来(lai)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)稽矣(yi)(yi)(yi)。周厉之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)难,天(tian)子(zi)(zi)(zi)旷绝,而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)天(tian)下皆来(lai)谓矣(yi)(yi)(yi)。以(yi)此(ci)言(yan)(yan)物之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)相应也(ye)(ye),故(gu)曰行(xing)也(ye)(ye)成(cheng)也(ye)(ye)。善(shan)(shan)说者(zhe)(zhe)亦(yi)然(ran)。言(yan)(yan)尽理而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)得失利害定矣(yi)(yi)(yi),岂(qi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)一人(ren)言(yan)(yan)哉(zai)(zai)!魏(wei)惠(hui)(hui)(hui)王(wang)(wang)(wang)死,葬(zang)有(you)(you)(you)(you)日(ri)矣(yi)(yi)(yi)。天(tian)大(da)(da)雨雪(xue),至於牛(niu)目(mu)。群(qun)臣多谏於太(tai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)者(zhe)(zhe),曰:“雪(xue)甚如此(ci)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)行(xing)葬(zang),民必甚疾之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),官费(fei)又(you)恐(kong)不(bu)给,请(qing)弛期更(geng)(geng)日(ri)。”太(tai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰:“为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)人(ren)子(zi)(zi)(zi)者(zhe)(zhe),以(yi)民劳与官费(fei)用之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)故(gu),而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)不(bu)行(xing)先王(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)葬(zang),不(bu)义(yi)也(ye)(ye)。子(zi)(zi)(zi)勿复言(yan)(yan)。”群(qun)臣皆莫敢谏,而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)以(yi)告(gao)犀(xi)首。犀(xi)首曰:“吾末有(you)(you)(you)(you)以(yi)言(yan)(yan)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。是其(qi)唯(wei)惠(hui)(hui)(hui)公(gong)(gong)乎(hu)!请(qing)告(gao)惠(hui)(hui)(hui)公(gong)(gong)。”惠(hui)(hui)(hui)公(gong)(gong)曰:“诺。”驾而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)见(jian)(jian)太(tai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰:“葬(zang)有(you)(you)(you)(you)日(ri)矣(yi)(yi)(yi)?”太(tai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰:“然(ran)。”惠(hui)(hui)(hui)公(gong)(gong)曰:“昔王(wang)(wang)(wang)季(ji)历葬(zang)於涡(wo)山之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)尾,{亦(yi)水}水啮其(qi)墓,见(jian)(jian)棺之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)前和。文王(wang)(wang)(wang)曰:‘嘻!先君(jun)必欲(yu)一见(jian)(jian)群(qun)臣百姓也(ye)(ye)天(tian),故(gu)使{亦(yi)水}水见(jian)(jian)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。’於是出(chu)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)张朝,百姓皆见(jian)(jian)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),三日(ri)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)后更(geng)(geng)葬(zang)。此(ci)文王(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)义(yi)也(ye)(ye)。今(jin)葬(zang)有(you)(you)(you)(you)日(ri)矣(yi)(yi)(yi),而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)雪(xue)甚,及牛(niu)目(mu),难以(yi)行(xing)。太(tai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)及日(ri)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)故(gu),得无(wu)嫌於欲(yu)亟葬(zang)乎(hu)?愿太(tai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)易(yi)日(ri)。先王(wang)(wang)(wang)必欲(yu)少留而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)抚社稷安黔(qian)首也(ye)(ye),故(gu)使雨雪(xue)甚。因(yin)弛期而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)更(geng)(geng)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)日(ri),此(ci)文王(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)义(yi)也(ye)(ye)。若(ruo)此(ci)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)不(bu)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei),意者(zhe)(zhe)羞法(fa)文王(wang)(wang)(wang)也(ye)(ye)?”太(tai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰:“甚善(shan)(shan)。敬弛期,更(geng)(geng)择(ze)葬(zang)日(ri)。”惠(hui)(hui)(hui)子(zi)(zi)(zi)不(bu)徒行(xing)说也(ye)(ye),又(you)令(ling)魏(wei)太(tai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)未葬(zang)其(qi)先君(jun)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)因(yin)有(you)(you)(you)(you)说文王(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)义(yi)。说文王(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)义(yi)以(yi)示天(tian)下,岂(qi)小(xiao)功也(ye)(ye)哉(zai)(zai)!韩(han)氏城新城,期十五日(ri)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)成(cheng)。段(duan)(duan)乔(qiao)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)司空,有(you)(you)(you)(you)一县后二日(ri),段(duan)(duan)乔(qiao)执(zhi)其(qi)吏而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)囚(qiu)(qiu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。囚(qiu)(qiu)者(zhe)(zhe)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)子(zi)(zi)(zi)走告(gao)封(feng)人(ren)子(zi)(zi)(zi)高(gao)曰:“唯(wei)先生能活臣父之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)死,愿委之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)先生。”封(feng)人(ren)子(zi)(zi)(zi)高(gao)曰:“诺。”乃见(jian)(jian)段(duan)(duan)乔(qiao)。自(zi)扶而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)上城。封(feng)人(ren)子(zi)(zi)(zi)高(gao)左(zuo)右望曰:“美哉(zai)(zai)城乎(hu)!一大(da)(da)功矣(yi)(yi)(yi),子(zi)(zi)(zi)必有(you)(you)(you)(you)厚赏矣(yi)(yi)(yi)!自(zi)古及今(jin),功若(ruo)此(ci)其(qi)大(da)(da)也(ye)(ye),而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)能无(wu)有(you)(you)(you)(you)罪(zui)戮(lu)者(zhe)(zhe),未尝有(you)(you)(you)(you)也(ye)(ye)。”封(feng)人(ren)子(zi)(zi)(zi)高(gao)出(chu),段(duan)(duan)乔(qiao)使人(ren)夜(ye)解(jie)其(qi)吏之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)束缚也(ye)(ye)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)出(chu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。故(gu)曰封(feng)人(ren)子(zi)(zi)(zi)高(gao)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)言(yan)(yan)也(ye)(ye),而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)匿己之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)为(wei)(wei)(wei)(wei)也(ye)(ye);段(duan)(duan)乔(qiao)听(ting)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)行(xing)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)也(ye)(ye),匿己之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)行(xing)而(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)(er)行(xing)也(ye)(ye)。说之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)行(xing)若(ruo)此(ci)其(qi)精也(ye)(ye),封(feng)人(ren)子(zi)(zi)(zi)高(gao)可谓善(shan)(shan)说矣(yi)(yi)(yi)。
叔(shu)向之弟羊(yang)舌虎善栾盈。栾盈有罪於晋(jin),晋(jin)诛(zhu)羊(yang)舌虎,叔(shu)向为(wei)之奴而朡。
祈奚曰:“吾闻小人(ren)得位,不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)争不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)祥;君(jun)子在忧,不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)救不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)祥。”乃往见(jian)范宣子而说也,曰:“闻善(shan)为国(guo)者,赏(shang)(shang)不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)过(guo)而刑不(bu)(bu)(bu)(bu)慢。赏(shang)(shang)过(guo)则惧及淫(yin)人(ren),刑慢则惧及君(jun)子。
与其(qi)不(bu)(bu)幸而(er)过(guo),宁过(guo)而(er)赏淫人(ren),毋过(guo)而(er)刑君(jun)子。故尧(yao)之刑也殛鲧,於虞(yu)而(er)用禹;周之刑也戮管蔡,而(er)相周公:不(bu)(bu)慢(man)刑也。”宣(xuan)子乃(nai)命吏出叔向(xiang)。救人(ren)之患者,行危苦,不(bu)(bu)避烦(fan)辱,犹不(bu)(bu)能免(mian);今(jin)祈奚论先王之德,而(er)叔向(xiang)得免(mian)焉(yan)。学岂可以已(yi)哉!类多若此。
察(cha)贤(xian)二(er)曰:今有良(liang)医(yi)於此(ci),治十人(ren)而(er)起九人(ren)。所以求之(zhi)万也。故(gu)贤(xian)者之(zhi)致功名(ming)也,必(bi)(bi)乎(hu)良(liang)医(yi),而(er)君(jun)人(ren)者不知疾(ji)求,岂(qi)不过(guo)哉!今夫(fu)塞者,勇(yong)力(li)时日卜筮祷(dao)祠无事(shi)焉,善者必(bi)(bi)胜。立功名(ming)亦然,要在得贤(xian)。魏(wei)文侯师(shi)卜子夏,友田子方,礼段干木,国治身逸。天下之(zhi)贤(xian)主,岂(qi)必(bi)(bi)苦形(xing)愁虑(lv)哉!执其要而(er)已矣(yi)。雪霜(shuang)雨露时,则万物育矣(yi),人(ren)民修矣(yi),疾(ji)病妖厉去矣(yi)。故(gu)曰尧(yao)之(zhi)容若(ruo)委衣裘,以言少事(shi)也。
宓(mi)子(zi)贱(jian)治(zhi)单父,弹鸣琴,身(shen)不下堂(tang),而(er)(er)单父治(zhi)。巫马(ma)期(qi)(qi)以星出,以星入(ru),日夜不居(ju),以身(shen)亲之,而(er)(er)单父亦(yi)治(zhi)。巫马(ma)期(qi)(qi)问其故於(wu)宓(mi)子(zi),宓(mi)子(zi)曰:“我之谓任(ren)人,子(zi)之谓任(ren)力(li);任(ren)力(li)者故劳,任(ren)人者故逸(yi)。”宓(mi)子(zi)则(ze)君子(zi)矣。逸(yi)四肢,全(quan)耳目,平心气,而(er)(er)百(bai)官以治(zhi),义矣,任(ren)其数而(er)(er)已矣。巫马(ma)期(qi)(qi)则(ze)不然,弊(bi)生(sheng)事精(jing),劳手足(zu),烦教诏(zhao),虽治(zhi)犹未至也。
期贤三曰:今(jin)夫爚蝉者,务在(zai)(zai)乎(hu)明(ming)其(qi)火(huo)(huo)、振(zhen)其(qi)树而已。火(huo)(huo)不(bu)明(ming),虽振(zhen)其(qi)树,何益?明(ming)火(huo)(huo)不(bu)独(du)在(zai)(zai)乎(hu)火(huo)(huo),在(zai)(zai)於暗。当(dang)今(jin)之(zhi)时,世暗甚(shen)矣(yi),人主(zhu)有(you)能明(ming)其(qi)德者,天(tian)下之(zhi)士,其(qi)归(gui)之(zhi)也(ye),若蝉之(zhi)走(zou)明(ming)火(huo)(huo)也(ye)。凡国不(bu)徒(tu)安(an),名不(bu)徒(tu)显,必得(de)贤士。
赵(zhao)(zhao)简(jian)子(zi)昼居,喟然太息(xi)曰(yue):“异(yi)哉!吾(wu)欲伐(fa)(fa)卫(wei)十(shi)(shi)年(nian)矣(yi),而(er)卫(wei)不(bu)伐(fa)(fa)。”侍者曰(yue):“以赵(zhao)(zhao)之(zhi)大而(er)伐(fa)(fa)卫(wei)之(zhi)细,君(jun)若不(bu)欲则可(ke)也(ye);君(jun)若欲之(zhi),请(qing)令伐(fa)(fa)之(zhi)。”简(jian)子(zi)曰(yue):“不(bu)如而(er)言也(ye)。卫(wei)有士(shi)十(shi)(shi)人(ren)於吾(wu)所,吾(wu)乃且伐(fa)(fa)之(zhi),十(shi)(shi)人(ren)者其(qi)言不(bu)义(yi)也(ye),而(er)我伐(fa)(fa)之(zhi),是我为不(bu)义(yi)也(ye)。”故简(jian)子(zi)之(zhi)时,卫(wei)以十(shi)(shi)人(ren)者按赵(zhao)(zhao)之(zhi)兵,殁简(jian)子(zi)之(zhi)身。卫(wei)可(ke)谓知用人(ren)矣(yi),游十(shi)(shi)士(shi)而(er)国(guo)家(jia)得安。简(jian)子(zi)可(ke)谓好(hao)从谏矣(yi),听十(shi)(shi)士(shi)而(er)无侵小夺弱之(zhi)名(ming)。
魏文侯(hou)过段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)之(zhi)(zhi)闾而(er)轼之(zhi)(zhi),其(qi)仆曰(yue)(yue):“君胡为(wei)(wei)轼?”曰(yue)(yue):“此(ci)(ci)非段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)之(zhi)(zhi)闾欤?段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)盖贤(xian)者(zhe)(zhe)也(ye)(ye)(ye),吾(wu)安(an)敢(gan)不(bu)轼?且吾(wu)闻(wen)段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)未(wei)尝(chang)肯(ken)以(yi)(yi)己易寡(gua)人(ren)也(ye)(ye)(ye),吾(wu)安(an)敢(gan)骄之(zhi)(zhi)?段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)光(guang)乎德,寡(gua)人(ren)光(guang)乎地(di)(di);段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)富乎义,寡(gua)人(ren)富乎财(cai)。”其(qi)仆曰(yue)(yue):“然(ran)则君何不(bu)相之(zhi)(zhi)?”於(wu)是(shi)君请相之(zhi)(zhi),段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)不(bu)肯(ken)受。则君乃(nai)致禄百万,而(er)时往(wang)馆之(zhi)(zhi)。於(wu)是(shi)国人(ren)皆喜(xi),相与诵之(zhi)(zhi)曰(yue)(yue):“吾(wu)君好正,段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)之(zhi)(zhi)敬;吾(wu)君好忠,段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)之(zhi)(zhi)隆。”居无(wu)几何,秦兴兵(bing)欲攻魏,司马唐谏秦君曰(yue)(yue):“段(duan)(duan)干(gan)(gan)木(mu)贤(xian)者(zhe)(zhe)也(ye)(ye)(ye),而(er)魏礼之(zhi)(zhi),天下(xia)莫不(bu)闻(wen),无(wu)乃(nai)不(bu)可加兵(bing)乎?”秦君以(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)然(ran),乃(nai)按兵(bing),辍(chuo)不(bu)敢(gan)攻之(zhi)(zhi)。魏文侯(hou)可谓善用(yong)兵(bing)矣(yi)。尝(chang)闻(wen)君子之(zhi)(zhi)用(yong)兵(bing),莫见其(qi)形,其(qi)功已成,其(qi)此(ci)(ci)之(zhi)(zhi)谓也(ye)(ye)(ye)。野人(ren)之(zhi)(zhi)用(yong)兵(bing)也(ye)(ye)(ye),鼓声则似雷(lei),号呼则动地(di)(di),尘气(qi)充天,流矢如雨(yu),扶(fu)伤舆死(si),履肠涉血,无(wu)罪之(zhi)(zhi)民,其(qi)死(si)者(zhe)(zhe)量於(wu)泽矣(yi),而(er)国之(zhi)(zhi)存亡、主(zhu)之(zhi)(zhi)死(si)生(sheng)犹不(bu)可知也(ye)(ye)(ye)。其(qi)离仁义亦远(yuan)矣(yi)!审为(wei)(wei)四曰(yue)(yue):身者(zhe)(zhe),所(suo)(suo)为(wei)(wei)也(ye)(ye)(ye);天下(xia)者(zhe)(zhe),所(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。审所(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)为(wei)(wei),而(er)轻重得矣(yi)。今有人(ren)於(wu)此(ci)(ci),断首以(yi)(yi)易冠,杀身以(yi)(yi)易衣,世必惑之(zhi)(zhi)。是(shi)何也(ye)(ye)(ye)?冠,所(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)饰首也(ye)(ye)(ye),衣,所(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)饰身也(ye)(ye)(ye),杀所(suo)(suo)饰要所(suo)(suo)以(yi)(yi)饰,则不(bu)知所(suo)(suo)为(wei)(wei)矣(yi)。世之(zhi)(zhi)走利有似於(wu)此(ci)(ci)。危身伤生(sheng),刈(yi)颈断头以(yi)(yi)徇(xun)利,则亦不(bu)知所(suo)(suo)为(wei)(wei)也(ye)(ye)(ye)。
太(tai)王亶父居邠,狄人(ren)攻之(zhi)。事(shi)以(yi)(yi)皮帛而(er)不(bu)受,事(shi)以(yi)(yi)珠玉而(er)不(bu)肯(ken),狄人(ren)之(zhi)所(suo)求者,地也。太(tai)王亶父曰:“与(yu)(yu)人(ren)之(zhi)兄居而(er)杀其(qi)弟,与(yu)(yu)人(ren)之(zhi)父处而(er)杀其(qi)子,吾(wu)不(bu)忍为(wei)也。皆勉处矣!为(wei)吾(wu)臣与(yu)(yu)狄人(ren)臣,奚以(yi)(yi)异?且吾(wu)闻之(zhi),不(bu)以(yi)(yi)所(suo)以(yi)(yi)养(yang)害所(suo)养(yang)。”杖策而(er)去。民(min)相连而(er)从之(zhi),遂成国於岐山之(zhi)下。太(tai)王亶父可(ke)谓(wei)能尊生矣。能尊生,虽(sui)贵富,不(bu)以(yi)(yi)养(yang)伤(shang)身(shen);虽(sui)贫贱,不(bu)以(yi)(yi)利累(lei)形。今受其(qi)先(xian)人(ren)之(zhi)爵禄,则必重失之(zhi)。
生之(zhi)所自(zi)来者(zhe)久矣,而(er)轻失之(zhi),岂不(bu)惑(huo)哉!韩魏相与(yu)(yu)争侵地。子(zi)(zi)华(hua)子(zi)(zi)见昭釐(li)侯,昭釐(li)侯有忧色。子(zi)(zi)华(hua)子(zi)(zi)曰(yue)(yue):“今使天(tian)(tian)(tian)下(xia)(xia)(xia)书铭於君之(zhi)前,书之(zhi)曰(yue)(yue):‘左(zuo)手攫(jue)之(zhi)则右(you)手废,右(you)手攫(jue)之(zhi)则左(zuo)手废,然而(er)攫(jue)之(zhi)必(bi)有天(tian)(tian)(tian)下(xia)(xia)(xia)。’君将攫(jue)之(zhi)乎?亡其不(bu)与(yu)(yu)?”昭釐(li)侯曰(yue)(yue):“寡人(ren)不(bu)攫(jue)也(ye)。”子(zi)(zi)华(hua)子(zi)(zi)曰(yue)(yue):“甚善。自(zi)是观之(zhi),两臂(bei)重(zhong)於天(tian)(tian)(tian)下(xia)(xia)(xia)也(ye)。身(shen)又重(zhong)於两臂(bei)。韩之(zhi)轻於天(tian)(tian)(tian)下(xia)(xia)(xia)远(yuan)(yuan);今之(zhi)所争者(zhe),其轻於韩又远(yuan)(yuan)。君固愁身(shen)伤生以忧之(zhi),戚不(bu)得(de)也(ye)。”昭釐(li)侯曰(yue)(yue):“善。教(jiao)寡人(ren)者(zhe)众矣,未尝(chang)得(de)闻此言也(ye)。”子(zi)(zi)华(hua)子(zi)(zi)可谓知(zhi)(zhi)轻重(zhong)矣。知(zhi)(zhi)轻重(zhong),故论(lun)不(bu)过。
中山公子(zi)牟谓詹子(zi)曰(yue):“身(shen)在(zai)江海之(zhi)(zhi)上,心居乎魏(wei)阙之(zhi)(zhi)下,柰何(he)?”詹子(zi)曰(yue):“重(zhong)生(sheng)(sheng)。重(zhong)生(sheng)(sheng)则(ze)轻利。”中山公子(zi)牟曰(yue):“虽知之(zhi)(zhi),犹不(bu)能(neng)自胜(sheng)也。”詹子(zi)曰(yue):“不(bu)能(neng)自胜(sheng)则(ze)纵之(zhi)(zhi),神无恶(e)乎!不(bu)能(neng)自胜(sheng)而强(qiang)不(bu)纵者,此之(zhi)(zhi)谓重(zhong)伤。重(zhong)伤之(zhi)(zhi)人(ren)无寿类矣。”爱类五曰(yue):仁(ren)於(wu)他(ta)物,不(bu)仁(ren)於(wu)人(ren)。不(bu)得为仁(ren)。不(bu)仁(ren)於(wu)他(ta)物,独仁(ren)於(wu)人(ren),犹若(ruo)为仁(ren)。
仁也(ye)(ye)者(zhe)(zhe)。仁乎其(qi)类者(zhe)(zhe)也(ye)(ye)。故仁人之(zhi)(zhi)於民(min)(min)也(ye)(ye),可以(yi)便之(zhi)(zhi),无不行也(ye)(ye)。神农(nong)之(zhi)(zhi)教曰(yue):“士有(you)当年而不耕(geng)者(zhe)(zhe),则天下或受其(qi)饥矣(yi)(yi);女有(you)当年而不绩者(zhe)(zhe),则天下或受其(qi)寒矣(yi)(yi)。”故身(shen)亲(qin)耕(geng),妻(qi)亲(qin)绩,所(suo)以(yi)见致民(min)(min)利(li)也(ye)(ye)。贤人之(zhi)(zhi)不远海内之(zhi)(zhi)路,而时(shi)往来(lai)乎王公之(zhi)(zhi)朝,非以(yi)要利(li)也(ye)(ye),以(yi)民(min)(min)为(wei)务(wu)(wu)故也(ye)(ye)。人主有(you)能以(yi)民(min)(min)为(wei)务(wu)(wu)者(zhe)(zhe),则天下归之(zhi)(zhi)矣(yi)(yi)。
王(wang)也者(zhe)(zhe),非(fei)必(bi)坚甲(jia)利兵选卒练士(shi)也,非(fei)必(bi)隳人之(zhi)城郭(guo)杀人之(zhi)士(shi)民也。上(shang)世(shi)之(zhi)王(wang)者(zhe)(zhe)众矣,而事皆不同,其当世(shi)之(zhi)急,忧(you)民之(zhi)利,除民之(zhi)害同。
公(gong)输(shu)般(ban)(ban)(ban)为(wei)(wei)(wei)高云(yun)梯,欲以攻(gong)(gong)(gong)宋(song)(song)。墨(mo)(mo)子(zi)(zi)(zi)闻之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),自鲁往(wang),裂(lie)裳裹足,日夜不(bu)(bu)休,十(shi)日十(shi)夜而至於(wu)郢。见荆(jing)(jing)王(wang)曰:“臣(chen)北方之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)鄙人(ren)也,闻大王(wang)将(jiang)攻(gong)(gong)(gong)宋(song)(song),信有之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)乎?”王(wang)曰:“然。”墨(mo)(mo)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰:“必得(de)宋(song)(song)乃(nai)攻(gong)(gong)(gong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)乎?亡(wang)其不(bu)(bu)得(de)宋(song)(song)且(qie)不(bu)(bu)义(yi)犹攻(gong)(gong)(gong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)乎?”王(wang)曰:“必不(bu)(bu)得(de)宋(song)(song)且(qie)有不(bu)(bu)义(yi),则曷为(wei)(wei)(wei)攻(gong)(gong)(gong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)?”墨(mo)(mo)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰:“甚(shen)善。臣(chen)以宋(song)(song)必不(bu)(bu)可得(de)。”王(wang)曰:“公(gong)输(shu)般(ban)(ban)(ban),天下之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)巧工(gong)也。已为(wei)(wei)(wei)攻(gong)(gong)(gong)宋(song)(song)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)械矣。”墨(mo)(mo)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰:“请令公(gong)输(shu)般(ban)(ban)(ban)试攻(gong)(gong)(gong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),臣(chen)请试守(shou)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”於(wu)是公(gong)输(shu)般(ban)(ban)(ban)设攻(gong)(gong)(gong)宋(song)(song)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)械,墨(mo)(mo)子(zi)(zi)(zi)设守(shou)宋(song)(song)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)备。公(gong)输(shu)般(ban)(ban)(ban)九(jiu)攻(gong)(gong)(gong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),墨(mo)(mo)子(zi)(zi)(zi)九(jiu)却之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),不(bu)(bu)能入(ru)。故荆(jing)(jing)辍不(bu)(bu)攻(gong)(gong)(gong)宋(song)(song)。墨(mo)(mo)子(zi)(zi)(zi)能以术御荆(jing)(jing)免宋(song)(song)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)难者,此(ci)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)谓(wei)也。
圣王通士,不出(chu)於(wu)利民者(zhe)无有(you)。昔上古(gu)龙门未(wei)(wei)开(kai),吕梁未(wei)(wei)发(fa),河(he)出(chu)孟门,大溢逆流(liu),无有(you)丘(qiu)陵沃衍(yan)、平原(yuan)高阜,尽皆灭(mie)之,名曰“鸿水(shui)”。禹(yu)於(wu)是疏河(he)决江(jiang),为彭蠡之障,干东土(tu),所活者(zhe)千八百(bai)国。此禹(yu)之功也。勤(qin)劳为民,无苦乎禹(yu)者(zhe)矣。
匡章谓惠(hui)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“公之(zhi)(zhi)学(xue)去尊,今(jin)又王(wang)齐王(wang),何其(qi)(qi)(qi)到也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)?”惠(hui)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“今(jin)有人於此,欲(yu)(yu)必击(ji)其(qi)(qi)(qi)爱(ai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)头(tou),石可(ke)以(yi)代(dai)之(zhi)(zhi)。”匡章曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“公取(qu)之(zhi)(zhi)代(dai)乎?其(qi)(qi)(qi)不(bu)与?”“施(shi)取(qu)代(dai)之(zhi)(zhi)。子(zi)(zi)(zi)头(tou),所重(zhong)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye);石,所轻也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。击(ji)其(qi)(qi)(qi)所轻以(yi)免其(qi)(qi)(qi)所重(zhong),岂不(bu)可(ke)哉(zai)!”匡章曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“齐王(wang)之(zhi)(zhi)所以(yi)用兵而不(bu)休,攻击(ji)人而不(bu)止者(zhe),其(qi)(qi)(qi)故(gu)何也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)?”惠(hui)子(zi)(zi)(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“大(da)者(zhe)可(ke)以(yi)王(wang),其(qi)(qi)(qi)次可(ke)以(yi)霸也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。今(jin)可(ke)以(yi)王(wang)齐王(wang)而寿黔首之(zhi)(zhi)命(ming),免民(min)之(zhi)(zhi)死,是以(yi)石代(dai)爱(ai)子(zi)(zi)(zi)头(tou)也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye),何为不(bu)为?”民(min),寒则欲(yu)(yu)火,暑则欲(yu)(yu)冰,燥则欲(yu)(yu)湿(shi),湿(shi)则欲(yu)(yu)燥。寒暑燥湿(shi)相反,其(qi)(qi)(qi)於利民(min)一也(ye)(ye)(ye)(ye)。利民(min)岂一道(dao)哉(zai)!当其(qi)(qi)(qi)时而已矣。
贵(gui)(gui)卒(zu)六曰:力贵(gui)(gui)突(tu),智(zhi)贵(gui)(gui)卒(zu)。得之同(tong)则速为(wei)(wei)(wei)上,胜之同(tong)则湿为(wei)(wei)(wei)下。所为(wei)(wei)(wei)贵(gui)(gui)骥者(zhe),为(wei)(wei)(wei)其(qi)一日(ri)千里也(ye);旬日(ri)取之,与(yu)驽骀(tai)同(tong)。所为(wei)(wei)(wei)贵(gui)(gui)镞矢者(zhe),为(wei)(wei)(wei)其(qi)应声而(er)至(zhi);终日(ri)而(er)至(zhi),则与(yu)无至(zhi)同(tong)。
吴(wu)起谓荆王(wang)曰:“荆所有馀(yu)者(zhe),地也;所不足(zu)者(zhe),民也。今君王(wang)以所不足(zu)益(yi)所有馀(yu),臣(chen)不得而(er)(er)为也。”於是(shi)令(ling)贵(gui)人(ren)(ren)往实广虚之(zhi)地。皆(jie)甚苦之(zhi)。荆王(wang)死(si),贵(gui)人(ren)(ren)皆(jie)来(lai)。尸在堂上,贵(gui)人(ren)(ren)相与射吴(wu)起。吴(wu)起号呼曰:“吾(wu)示(shi)子吾(wu)用兵也。”拔矢而(er)(er)走,伏尸插矢而(er)(er)疾言曰:“群臣(chen)乱王(wang)!”吴(wu)起死(si)矣,且(qie)荆国(guo)之(zhi)法(fa),丽兵於王(wang)尸者(zhe)尽加(jia)重(zhong)罪,逮三族。吴(wu)起之(zhi)智可谓捷矣。
齐襄公(gong)即(ji)位(wei),憎公(gong)孙无(wu)知(zhi),收其禄。无(wu)知(zhi)不说,杀襄公(gong)。公(gong)子纠走鲁,公(gong)子小白(bai)奔(ben)莒。既而国杀无(wu)知(zhi),未有君,公(gong)子纠与公(gong)子小白(bai)皆归,俱至,争先入(ru)公(gong)家(jia)。
管仲扞弓射(she)公(gong)子(zi)小(xiao)(xiao)白(bai)(bai),中钩(gou)。鲍叔(shu)(shu)御公(gong)子(zi)小(xiao)(xiao)白(bai)(bai)僵。管子(zi)以为(wei)小(xiao)(xiao)白(bai)(bai)死,告公(gong)子(zi)纠曰:“安(an)之(zhi),公(gong)孙小(xiao)(xiao)白(bai)(bai)已死矣!”鲍叔(shu)(shu)因(yin)疾驱(qu)先入,故(gu)公(gong)子(zi)小(xiao)(xiao)白(bai)(bai)得以为(wei)君。鲍叔(shu)(shu)之(zhi)智应射(she)而令公(gong)子(zi)小(xiao)(xiao)白(bai)(bai)僵也,其智若镞矢也。
周(zhou)武君使人刺(ci)伶悝於(wu)东周(zhou)。伶悝僵,令其子速哭曰:“以(yi)(yi)谁(shei)刺(ci)我父(fu)也?”刺(ci)者闻,以(yi)(yi)为(wei)死也。周(zhou)以(yi)(yi)为(wei)不信(xin),因厚罪之(zhi)。
赵氏攻(gong)中山。中山之人多力者曰吾丘窎。衣(yi)铁甲操铁杖以战,而所(suo)击无(wu)(wu)不(bu)碎,所(suo)冲无(wu)(wu)不(bu)陷,以车(che)投车(che),以人投人也。几(ji)至将所(suo)而后死(si)。
